Hartsville to get rid of bricks on downtown crosswalks
The city of Hartsville will use up to $650,000 in borrowed money to get rid of the bricks on the crosswalks on Fifth Street in downtown Hartsville.

The council approved a resolution to apply for the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant. The city will be required to contribute a 10 percent match, or $5,900.
The funding will provide workforce development opportunities for juvenile offenders through participating local businesses. The business partners will provide employment opportunities for the juveniles and receive funds for salary from the grant.
Juvenile offenders will be given the opportunity for job placement, mentoring and job skills training.
Council members also approved an ordinance to lease a parking lot at 146 W. Carolina Ave. to serve as the parking lot for a new EdVenture Children’s Museum in downtown Hartsville.
The council voted in October to buy the 6,250 square foot building at the address for $240,000 to house the museum. The city had planned to purchase the adjoining parking lot for another $30,000. But the parking lot has multiple owners, which complicated the sale, City Manager Zeigler said. But the owners were agreeable to leasing the lot.
